Please ...need help resetting Installer code for my NX-8
«

I have been three years with out monitoring and would like to get my monitoring back up and running. Unfortunately all local alarm companies do not know how to reset the installer code. They are telling me i need either a new board or a new system/keyboard. I originally invested over $2100 in this all wireless system due to my house having vaulted ceilings. The only wired component is the keypad.
I have read here that it is possible to go into my alarm and see/change the installer code. I have all other codes, master etc. Right now I am retired USAF with two young kids 3 and 5 and cant really afford the $99 for the NX unlocker + $ 60 for cable. The local monitoring fee is reasonable at $19.95 but they want an arm and leg to try to unlock my installer code with no guarantee they can do it.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

I also have a
skybility
Mod CMM 7900-001 Cellular device attached to my NX-8. I can not find out any thing on the internet about this company. I am looking to see if I hire a company to monitor my system if I can still use this Cellular backup. Is there any way to find out by ESN#?? I have been told there is a possibility the old Alarm company may not have released it even though it has not been monitored for three years. Wondering if this is true why if I paid for it?

Have you tried the default code? *8 xxxx, 0#
If the perspective company has the Caddx DL900 software, they should be able to dial into it pretty easily if you never changed the download access code (default is 84800000). If the system was never monitored, it should still be at default, as you wouldn't have had a reason to change it.
If they can establish a connection, the installer code can be changed.

Hi thanks for the reply
The system was monitored three years ago and yes I tried the Default code. The system was installed by a company that now refuses to release the installer code and will only reset it for a fee.
As a result they WILL not get any more business from me.

Unfortunately, there is no back door into the program of that panel. May be worth your while to wait though, I think I've seen another user who has offered to remote access panels for people who can't get into programming.

Tell them that since you have no contractural agreement with them any more you require the panel programming to be restored to what it was before
THEY
changed it. Threaten legal action. They have no right to deprive you of proper use of
YOUR
equipment.
If its the same as the Australian NX8 you could try to default it to factory settings but it will then require reprogramming. Plenty of people have successfully programmed their panel from scratch with help from this forum

Thanks all for your kind advice.
If I opt to get the NX 588E and hook it up to the Alarm panel with the Program interface DL900, how will I know if they also changed the download Eight digit code requiring me to purchase the NX unlocker. What error will show up??
Also I noticed on the NX unlocker page it shows an example of the program defaulting the code to : 88880000 and not the Caddx default of: 84800000
Will the DL900 gain access with the 88880000 ?? I am guessing there is a way of entering an access code to DL900

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, the usual response involves thumb touching nose and fingers wiggling . . . . no harm trying though.

Then it must be different to the Australian one. With ours if you take off all power then power back up & enter 971300 within 10 sec it will default to factory settings. May be worth a try ?

Hi Bill and welcome to our forum,
I can call your panel and check if the download code is the default 84800000.
For this the panel must be connected to a working land line.
If it's changed you must buy an NX586 (serial) or NX-588 (USB) and I could default your program code remotely for free.
Regards

George went out of his way to help me. Unfortunately my only phone line "Magic Jack" will also not receive calls that the alarm will answer. I will be ordering a 588 this week.

I received the NX-588E. Loaded all drivers and connected and received the dredded "Wrong download code" msg. I then purchased the NX unlocker software and it worked as advertised! Unlocked in less than 10 sec. Now I am in my alarm panel.
Now wondering if the DL900 software is the way to go to review my zone settings. I have tried to understand how to review my different zones and I fall short. Example:
Per my panel Zone 1 or sensor #1 has the chime activated on the IR sensor in the garage. When I look at the zone 1 ...zone1 types tab under advanced settings it shows the chime as off.
I have a total of 25 sensors. sensor 1 and 2 are showing on the keypad list as #1 and #2 then the rest follow at #9 through #31. These are correct as the key pad (NX-1448E) reflects these numbers on the LCD display when checking the sensors once a month. So when I open the Master bedroom window assigned to sensor#15 (Magnetic sensor) the LCD chimes and #15 shows open. Sooo now how would I
for example
turn off the chime at #15
? Not that I will leave this chime off but so I know I am in the right area. I know I can program at the keypad directly but can the programming be with the DL900 software as well? Or is there a better interface then the Dl900??
Thanks

Hi Bill,
I am glad you made it unlocking your panel.
Zone features like the chime function and others, can not be directly configured on a specific zone. Zone features are edited on the zone TYPES or "Configuration Groups" per some manuals.
Your zone 1 is probably a delay zone assigned as zone TYPE 3 - and not as type 1 which would make zone 1 a DAY zone.
Once connected with the panel, go to Main > Zones. Also open Advanced > Zone Types. Arrange the two windows " Control Panel " and "Advanced Settings " so you can see both. At the zones tab window you see the zone number, the zone type of the zone and the partition or partitions this zone belongs to. Click inside the number field of zone 2. The arrow at the left indicates the selected zone. Look at the zone TYPE window. You will probably see that it changes zone type and also the selected features change. Remember when you first open the windows they are not in sync for zone 1 - showing zone type 1 in the zone types window. If you select zone 2 and back to zone 1 it would show the correct zone type. If you are very familiar with the zone types of your zones afterwards. you can only open the advanced zone types window and select and edit the TYPES you want.
Notice that for a zone type configuration edit, ALL ZONES assigned to the specific zone type are affected. Example :
You want a chime function on a perimeter door. Perimeter zones are usually type 6. By default the chime function is disabled in type 6. If you enable the chime function in type 6. then ALL perimeter type 6 zones will chime when opened. To overcome this situation, you must create a custom perimeter zone type and assign it to the only perimeter zone you want to chime. From the manual, use a zone type you are not (and will not be ) using it at all - like zone type 22 low temp detection. Copy all default features of zone type 6 to zone type 22. By this time, zone types 6 and 22 are the exact same. Add the chime function in zone type 22. Finally assign the perimeter zone you want to chime as zone type 22 inside the main > zones window.
These jobs are easier with DL900 than through keypad. There is no other direct interfacing software than DL900. Some plugins for automation software like HomeSeer have some programming features but they were not designed for that purpose.
The only difficulty you will find with DL900 in the beginning, is that some feature/option descriptions in DL900 might be slightly different than in the manual. Also when you connect, always be sure to sync DL900 with your panel.
Hope this helps
george
