Control panels keep beeping / battery chime
« on: January 04, 2010, 11:39:10 AM »
Ademco K4392V2 / M6983

Recently purchased new home with this security system installed.

Control panel beeps several times per day and displays - "AC not ready; Chime Bat".  I assume that this is a low battery warning indicator, but cannot locate a battery.  Multiple control panels and window/door indicators appear to be wired with AC.

Am I wrong here?  Are there batteries that need to be replaced, and if so, where?  Thank you.

It appears you're referring to keypads and not the actual alarm panel.  You'll want to locate somewhere in your home, a beige or red box about the size of a large phone book (14 x 12 x 4 inches).  It may have a keylock on it.  Inside is the actual alarm panel circuit board and battery.  If you can locate that box, you should be able to tell us the model number and we may be able to help you more.

Common places for these "cans" as they're called are laundry/utility rooms, master bedroom closets, other closets, attics, basement, etc.  They may or may not have multiple wires visibly running to them.

Something's flaky with this board. I replied to this post 15 minutes ago with pretty much the same answers (right down to the can dimentions!). Although I said the can would be beige or white.

I think MmmDee is deleting my posts to raise his ranking!  ;)

Either that or I'm having a senior's moment without actually being a senior.
I have all the answers . . . some of them are correct.

Thanks...

Found the can.

Shows Vista 20P/PS Series, Vista 15P Series

Battery is a 12V (4AH, CA1240)

Do I just need to replace the battery to stop the beeping?  If so, where can I purchase a battery?

Thanks for your help.

Yes.

where can I purchase a battery?

Radio Shack, Batteries Plus, Interstate Batteries, etc.  Should be around $20 give or take.

It will take a little while for the low battery to clear after replacing it.  There is a way around this by power cycling the control, but if you can put up with the beeping a little while longer, you won't have to do that.

Good security is never cheap, and cheap security is never good.

It's better to have a security system, and not need it, than need a security system, and not have it.

If its beeping on a low battery alarm, you can try pressing the  "1" key on the keypad to silence the alert.

Remrmber you need to recycle the battery, it can't be thrown in the garbage.
