Cameras for Visonic PowerLink

<< < (2/6) > >>

Hey Cammaro...hopefully someone here has used one of these cameras and can answer your question.  In my case, the price for the cameras just seemed too high and I started investigating other options...like a separate system just for video.

In my case, I just want a system to be able to confirm an alarm notification....where if I get a text from my system that an alarm is going off, I can pull up a camera online and see if it is a false alarm.  So I don't need anything high quality.

I saw these cameras:

They are not for the Visonic...they work without any other hardware necessary except for your router.  They also have wireless versions.  You can google them and find them for less that $100.

Anyhow, they may work for me.

Thanks,

Kelly

Did anyone try using a Trendnet camera with the Visonic Powerlink? I am being cheap and don't want to spring for the pricey cameras right now. Even though Visonic doesn't officially support claim to support them, I thought it may be possible to make it work with a little hacking/ingenuity. I just received my PowerMax Pro with Powerlink from HSS and had them push the 3.1 software upgrade to my unit. I may pick up a cheap Trendnet cam and see if I can make it work. I am sure how the cameras interface with the PowerMax yet, but thinking it probably has something to do with the camera firmware. Amazon has the Trendnet cam TV-IP110W on sale right now with $30 rebate. Total price of $68

I planned on getting one of those Trendnet cameras but haven't gotten around to it.  However, you don't even need the Powerlink to use them...I believe they act as their own server and you can connect right into them.

Are you just looking for convenience?  Is that why you want to hack them into the Powerlink?

If you figure out a hack, let us know.

Thanks,

Kelly

Has anyone setup the new 3100 cameras?  I am having trouble getting them to work wirelessly..  As long as it is plugged into the network they work fine.  Visonic says that the configuration is automatic however it does not work wirelessly..

****UPDATE*****

I found the problem.  It seems that the 3100 cameras do not support WEP encryption only WPA

They sold them out quickly on HSS. I didn't get around to ordering them and they were gone. It would be nice to hear from some of the others that got one as to how they are working.
