DLS 2002 and DSC PC 1832 - "Quick start for dummies" wanted
« on: March 17, 2008, 12:53:22 AM »
Hello,

I have installed my first alarm ever. Now I need to program it but is a bit lost.

I have DSC 1832 and DLS 2002 installed with the driver packs etc. I have the PC-Link cable (with 9-pin serial connector). I have tried to connect DLS to the panel but have not succeeded yet.

Can you describe what steps that I should do in order to get it running/communicating?

Best Regards
Joacim

How are you connecting to your computer? Through a serial connection or through a USB connect?
Are you using a USB to serial adapter?

The only adapter that seems to work for everyone is the Keyspan USA-19HS...it is also recommended by DSC.

You may also have to setup your PC or laptop ports.

Please let us have more info from you.

The small instruction sheet with the PC-link tells you exactly how to get the communications going once you have everything setup.

I have it connected to the serial port (yes my older laptop have that).

I have successfully connected after reading the manual a bit more :) the configuration is downloaded and now it's time to understand what to change.

- Is there any basic/standard procedure that should be done every time?
I have 2 wireless motion detectors, 2 wireless door detectors and a couple of wired (1 motion and 3 door detectors....will increase that soon).
- How can I "add" the wireless devices?

This is not wham, bang, thank-you mam.........programming is a planned event.

The very first thing you MUST do is complete the programming worksheet that is with your manual. This is the road map to success. Without it....you will not know what you have changed and what you have not.

Good news......80% of the default settings will work for most people. It is the other 20% that you have to review and/or change.

The wireless devices are added via the 5132-433 wireless receiver and the ESN are programmed there.

Complete the worksheet and then post back.
